  Kotewka orzech wodny to roślina z rodziny krwawnicowatych (Lingaceae)1). Łupina suszonych owoców orzecha wodnego zawiera związki stosowane do detoksykacji i pomagające w zwalczaniu biegunki2). The water chestnut shell has an effect of detoxification and diarrhea2). It is also inhibiting the growth of liver and gastric cancer cells3). Lung cancer is currently the most common malignant tumor in the world, and the worldwide incidence of lung cancer is increasing by 0.5% per year4). There are many kinds of water chestnuts, and the current literature reports concerned mostly Trapa manshurica. In this paper, the aqueous and alcohol extracts of Trapa bicornis var. bispinosa from Zhejiang and Trapa natans L. var. incisa Makino from Hunan were studied for growth inhibition effect of lung cancer A549 cells by using tetramethylazozolium salt (MTT). Meantime, the polyphenol content in particular extracts was determined by Folin colorimetry. Experimental Materials The dried fruits of Trapa bicornis var. bispinosa and Trapa natans L. var. incisa Makino are sourced from the market. Dimethyl sulfoxide Some chem. components were extd. from chestnut shells with EtOH or H2O and studied for content of polyphenols by colorimetric method. The ext. was applied to control lung cancer A549 cells and its growth inhibitory effect was detd. The content of polyphenols in Trapa natans L. var. incisa Makino was higher than that in Trapa bicornis var. bispinosal. EtOH was more efficient in extg. polyphenols than H2O. The inhibition rate of the EtOH ext. of Trapa bicornis var. bispinosal on lung cancer A549 cells was higher than that of the aq. ext., and the inhibition rate of the aq. ext. of Trapa natans L. var. incisa Makino on the growth of lung c[...]
