Over the last two decades, the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method has become very popular in different areas of engineering applications. Its roots, and still the most popular usage, are in pure electromagnetic simulations for microwave circuit [1] and antenna design [2], telecommunications, radar technology, cosmic research, and many other fields of microwave and millimetre wave technology [3]. Since roughly the turn of the century, a growing interest can also be observed in FDTD solutions of microwave heating phenomena [1,4,5]. Due to high microwave power levels involved, these phenomena tend to be multiphysics by nature.
