  1. INTRODUCTION In recent years, a lot of scientific research focus on new methods of water treatment. Traditional water treatment plants use old, commercial methods which are non-destructive for many compounds, like dyes. Textile dyes are one of the biggest fraction of organic pollutants in water. Almost 20% of these compounds goes to the textile effluents during the dyeing process. This pollutants are non-biodegradable, photochemically stable and often toxic. Due to oxidation, hydrolysis and other reactions that occur in sewage treatment plants, hazardous, mutagenic and carcinogenic for living organisms compounds can be formed [1÷4]. This is the reason to search for new technologies that can remove even resistant pollutants form water. Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) seem to meet these conditions. These processes base on generation of reactive species, mainly hydroxyl radicals (●OH), which are non-selective and oxidize a wide range of organic compounds. AOPs include, among others, H2O2/UV process, Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions and photocatalytic process, which seems to be the most appropriate to decompositions of non-biodegradable organic pollutants [3, 4]. Photocatalysis is a method conducted in the mild and ambient operating conditions, with high efficiency, is simple and low cost even for a large industrial scale [3÷6]. For the removal of organic compounds many water treatment techniques such as coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, ozonation or adsorption can be effectively used; however, they are non-destructive and effecting only a transfer of the organic pollutants from one phase to another. In contrast to these methods, photocatalysis results in decomposition of even recalcitrant pollutants to water, carbon dioxide and inorganic acids in most cases.
