Possibilities of reducing plastic material consumption in injection molding in an organization which supplies components for the automotive industry with regard to sustainable entrepreneurship were presented. Dimensions, mass and appearance characteristics as CtQ (critical to quality) parameters which are related to the injection molding of plastic components and its sustainability indicators (SUI) were subject of the study. The CtQ parameters were studied by using the LSS (lean six sigma) tools, the SPAN (systematic procedure for attaining necessary capability) method and car dashboard polypropylene parts SUI were discussed. In the initial set-up of parameters and their subsequent suitable combination within the DoE (design of experiments), the mass of the part was reduced, and SUI was improved. The originality of the study consisted in establishing and practical validation of the methodology, combining well-known LSS tools with an older less-known SPAN method, and in achieving the product sustainability already at the component design stage. Environmental and social challenges1, 2), the modern society has to face in this century, and the competitive nature of the market environment forces organizations to improve their operational conditions, optimize material and energy consumption as well as environmental impact by using efficient production procedures, technologies, and people. Without sustainable organizations there is no sustainable development, thus, no future3). Slovakia is a country where the highest number of cars per capita in the world is produced. It has an extensive network of suppliers, which also includes producers of various plastic components. Every year, there is demand for more than 500 Gg of plastic in Slovakia4), which negatively affects sustainability development indicators at the national and regional level and at the level of individual organizations. 400 98/3(2019) Wyzwania środowiskowe i społeczne1,[...]
