A computational design optimisation process is used to generate luminaire reflector geometry that achieves a set luminous intensity distribution. Different optimisation strategies are discussed and compared with the analytical solution to the problem. Streszczenie. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących optymalizacji profilu zwierciadlanego odbłyśnika o symetrii obrotowej. Funkcją celu są ustalone parametry fotometryczne oprawy oświetleniowej. Introduction Luminaire optical design often requires determining the optimal luminous intensity distribution, or optimal luminance distribution, for a given set of constraints. Constraints can include: the size of luminaire, the properties of material used, the overall cost of the solution proposed, the minimum efficiency that can be accepted, etc. The main goal of the designer is to achieve the highest performance given a particular configuration, by adjusting the variables of the problem [1, 7] (Fig. 1). Variables can include: the shape of the reflector, the diffraction index of the diffuser, the reflector efficiency, the lamp position etc. This paper illustrates how an advanced optimisation workflow can be used to help the designer task. To better explain this idea an example application is discussed: it is fictitiously assumed that the main goal of a designer is the optimisation of a luminaire by adjusting the geometry of the reflector and the goal is to meet a given luminous intensity distribution.
